Biography

Steven Ivcich is a writer/director/actor/teacher with 30 years of professional stage and film experience. Working with actors has been central to the arc of his career. His understanding of the actor’s creative needs led him to develop his groundbreaking process, a process that affords actors the very best possible learning and working environment.

  • Currently in preproduction to direct Gems, an independent film starring Olympia Dukakis.

  • Wrote Nightman, a screenplay produced and directed by Frederick Marx (Hoop Dreams) in 1997.

  • 1992-2000, director of the Professional Studio, an intensive 40-week actor-training program in Chicago.

  • Conducted an intensive actor-training program (1981-85) at Clyde Vinson Studio, New York City.

  • 1977-87 wrote and directed a series of seven original stage works including Sensoria, Clown Cave, Family Holomek, Solitaire, Einsteins, The Young Psycho-Vivisectionist Meet Marilyn Monroe, and Penta/Benta. These shows, produced by Chicago’s Tony award winning Victory Gardens Theatre, received both critical and popular acclaim. In recognition of his work, Mr. Ivcich has been twice nominated for Joseph Jefferson Awards.

  • 1974-78 gave over 500 performances as part of a statewide touring program sponsored by Young Audience, Inc. of St. Louis.

  • Studied with Etienne Decroux, 1971-73, in Paris, France.

  • Awarded a full academic scholarship to Northwestern University, 1968.
